BIBLE SERMONS

Bible Sermons are usually composed and given by the pastor of a church.

But the founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, prayed deeply to discover how people could benefit the most from sermons each week and concluded that by giving out Bible Readings beforehand to people, they could study them before they were read out in church.

This is how the Bible Sermon became the Christian Science pastor. The Bible Sermon is also known as Bible Lessons.

This way, the congregation would have had the opportunity to prove what they were learning from the Bible, and that way, the Sermon being read each Sunday would be significant. She chose 26 subjects that repeat every six months and chose subjects that most religions have to address.

These are listed in The Christian Science Quarterly. The readings chosen by a specially elected committee find correlative passages from its textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by her. [Mary Baker Eddy]
