Thinking Angel thoughts
[Ref. ss #7]
You are so loved by the angel thoughts other people have about you.
Let's have angel thoughts about everyone this Christmas
At Christmas time we see lots of gorgeous looking decorations and one day a little girl called Tanya came home from shopping having seen something like a big paper doll, all white and gold and it had feathered wings and was flying like a bird. Her friends thought it was the best Angel they had ever seen but Tanya was confused as she’d learnt in Sunday School that Angels were good thoughts from God.
So she asked her Mum if that meant there were two sorts of Angels but her mother pointed out that it was an artists impression of them rather like the Statue of Liberty was there as a model, to remind people of the value of freedom!
Tanya could remember the value of an Angel thought the previous day when she’d listened to be obedient and not be cross when she’d had been told to pick up her toys before going out to play. She’d remembered that Angel thoughts help us to stay our usual happy and obedient selves. They are happy companions; good friends always helping us to do what is right and when we listen to these thoughts we are always happy.
So Tanya could see that the gold one in that town window was only a make-believe Angel; that indeed real ones were God’s thoughts come to take care of us like in Psalms.
Tanya thought of a good game to play ‘catching Angel thoughts’ [a verbal game of tag; closing eyes and listening for an angel thought]! She and her mother played it before mother left her to go to sleep. They took it in turns to find a good angel thought about something or someone expressing happiness, joy and, good thoughts, from God, which show us the truth about ourselves! The effect of them was to fill our thoughts with peace that gave us a sense of God’s harmonious care of us all. The game lived on but one night Tanya learnt that this was much more than just a game.
She had not been feeling well after coming home from school and when she went to bed she did not want to “catch angels”! So Mother played it for her, sitting beside her on her bed, telling her the Angel thoughts God was sending her, about Tanya. Soon she asked Tanya to repeat first one familiar healing truth and then another with her. It was not long before Tanya perked up and joined in with good ideas of her own. She was so busy “catching angels” that there was no room for wrong thoughts of fever and weakness. She was well!
As a final good-night Angel thought her mother read the last part of the definition of what Mrs Eddy wrote in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures on pg 581 says of angels:
“the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality.”
Their Angels had chased away wrong thoughts of sickness. Tanya had caught the Angel thoughts that brought goodness and health. Catching Angels was real fun!
